Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

At Dalewood Dental, we are committed to removing financial barriers to oral health care for eligible Canadian residents. You may qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). Please review the information below to learn more.

Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for the CDCP, you must meet the following criteria:
  • No private dental insurance
  • Annual household income under $90,000
  • Canadian resident
  • Have filed taxes for the previous year

Phased Rollout Schedule: The Government of Canada is implementing the plan in phases, allowing different groups to apply at different times:
  • Aged 87+: Apply starting December 2023
  • Aged 77-86: Apply starting January 2024
  • Aged 72-76: Apply starting February 2024
  • Aged 70-71: Apply starting March 2024
  • Aged 65-69: Apply starting May 2024
  • Adults with a Disability Tax Credit and children under 18: Apply starting June 2024
  • All other Canadian residents: Apply starting in 2025

Important Information Before Your Appointment: Please note that treatment under the CDCP will not be entirely free. There is a common misconception that the CDCP will cover all treatment costs, which is not the case. The fee guide provided by the federal government under the CDCP is less than the fees outlined by the Ontario Dental Association, so patients will need to pay the difference.

Participation of Dental Providers: Until July, only a small percentage of dentists registered with the CDCP are available. After July, patients can visit any participating dentist on a claim-by-claim basis. Not all dentists will participate due to unclear terms and conditions, including privacy concerns. Please confirm your dentist’s participation in the CDCP.

Availability of Additional Care: Currently, the CDCP offers limited treatment options. Essential services such as partial dentures, crowns, and sedation, which are necessary for many patients including children, people with disabilities, and seniors with dementia, will not be available until November and will require government pre-approval. The timeline for government approval is still uncertain.

After Acceptance and Enrollment: Plan members will receive a package including a benefits card and the program start date. Treatments completed before the start date will not be reimbursed. The earliest start date for the program is May 2024.

Covered Services: The CDCP covers most dental services, including basic services, endodontics, periodontics, restorative treatment, and oral surgery. Contact us for more detailed information. Estimates or predeterminations should be sent to check if a specific service is covered.
